2022 Australian of the Year Local Hero, Shanna Whan, is one of the chosen "everyday" Australians to attend the Queen’s funeral next week.
“It was a request from the Palace that 10 everyday citizens who make contributions to their local communities be invited to the Queen’s funeral,” Mr Albanese said during a media conference on Tuesday.
Ms Whan alongside other Australian of the Year recipients had an opportunity to meet the Queen via Zoom for her Majesty’s Jubilee.
"When I had my conversation with the Queen, I managed to sneak in there our mutual love for dogs and horses, and so I got a pretty gorgeous, special smile," Ms Whan told Sky News Australia.
"I am a fan of her Majesty for her service work … If that makes me a monarchist, I don’t know.
"I am just someone who appreciates a lifetime of service and I think that is worth well-honouring and that is what I will be happy to do."
