Trade union federations COSATU and SAFTU are pressing ahead with a strike over the 2022 wage deal that the government pushed through.
But more than half of unions representing government workers – including teachers’ union SADTU have resolved to continue negotiating.
At the same time, the 2023 wage talks have begun, with the government offering a 4,7 percent increase.
