Eskom asks Cogta to intervene in R1.4bn unpaid electricity bill

Eskom has asked the Department of Cooperative Governance and
Traditional Affairs to intervene and recover R1.4 billion in unpaid
electricity debt from the City of Tshwane.

The power utility says Tshwane’s electricity debt has ballooned after
a series of short payments and non-payments over the last several
months.

Eskom claims the challenges they face with cash flow are due to them
being owed around R57 billion from non-paying customers.

Eskom spokesperson in Gauteng Amanda Qithi elaborates.
