* Judgment has been reserved in the Constitutional Court in the leave to appeal application against the ruling by the Western Cape High Court declaring the suspension of Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane invalid.

* The Reserve Bank has lowered its economic growth expectations for the country this year from one point nine to one point eight percent. The bank’s monetary policy committee decided to increase rates by 75 basis points taking the repo rate to seven percent and the prime lending rate to ten point five percent. The central bank says this will help curb inflation that has been on an upward spiral driven by high food, fuel and energy prices.

* City of Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse has survived another possible attempt to remove her after the AIC and ATM withdrew their motions of no confidence. The motions were to be debated and voted yesterday 24 November 2022. It’s the third time that motions have been brought against Phalatse. In September, Phalatse was ousted as mayor but was reinstated after the high court in Johannesburg ruled that her removal had been unlawful.
