Special counsel to take over Trump criminal probes

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed a special counsel to determine whether former U.S. President Donald Trump should face criminal charges.

This follows his alleged mishandling of classified government documents and his role in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

The move comes three days after Trump announced that he is running for the White House again.
