Shadow Education Minister Alan Tudge has slammed a decision by the federal government to review grants designed to assist school students academically or with their mental health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report from The Daily Telegraph, the federal government has recently advised 36 recipients of the Emerging Priories Program grants that the funding assistance will now be subject to review.
“They were grants precisely designed to assist kids who may still be struggling from the effects of COVID, either in their academic work or in mental health issues,” Mr Tudge told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“These were urgent grants. We designed them because we saw the effects were lingering, we wanted to get them out fast. They have been approved, they are ready to go, they are budgeted.
“But the Labor Party has put them on hold.”
